The Citz Sessions, is a series of specially-curated, exclusive gigs hosted in the magnificent intimate Victorian auditorium of the Citizens Theatre.
To celebrate the launch of this exciting new project which brings together the best in both established and new bands, The Citz Sessions has enlisted guest curators to each host one evening embracing the diverse sonic landscape of the music scene in Scotland.
Each of the bands and artists will be presenting an intimate, stripped-back, acoustic performance to create a unique musical experience in the iconic surroundings of the theatre.
Citz Sessions is set to make an impact with confirmed acts such as the legendary Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit), along with band of the moment Jacob Yates and the Pearly Gate Lock Pickers to the astounding Frances McKee and the sultry tones of Gaelic songstress Kathleen MacInnes and hot new acts including Annie Booth.
On Friday 14 October, Ann Donald formerly of the indie pop band The Shop Assistants curates an evening celebrating some of the best female musicians working in the independent circuit in Scotland over the years.
On Saturday 15 October broadcaster, DJ and major music fan Vic Galloway takes the helm bringing together Scottish bred anthemic indie rock back to Glasgow – the epicentre of the underground and alternative music scene.
And singing us out on Sunday 16 October with her hauntingly beautiful peat-smoked voice is Gaelic songstress Kathleen MacIness. With a piece called ‘Displacement’ Kathleen looks at how Gaels and travellers have congregated in Glasgow, making it a beacon for Gaelic, Folk, Scots, Trad and Americana.
Line-ups for each evening will be updated as more acts are announced.
Dominic Hill, Artistic Director, Citizens Theatre commented:
“I’m delighted to see the inaugural Citz Sessions announced with a fantastic line-up of bands and artists involved. Audiences often comment on the unique atmosphere of our auditorium and I am excited to see it used for this type of performance. It also helps us continue to raise funds for the theatre’s £20.8 million capital redevelopment campaign.”
